About the Wisconsin Library Association Foundation (WLAF)
“The mission of the Wisconsin Library Association Foundation is to support the role of Wisconsin libraries as essential institutions in a democratic society.”
For over twenty years WLAF has engaged in activities designed to help libraries and keep the library profession in Wisconsin strong. WLAF provides a variety of scholarship programs aimed at bringing new people into the profession and helping those in the profession to grow. WLAF sponsors conference programs to educate, enrich, and renew library workers, and WLAF participates in awards and honors events to recognize library trustees, library supporters, library workers, and libraries.
The Wisconsin Library Association Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization so all contributions to WLAF are tax deductible. WLAF is a separate legal entity from the Wisconsin Library Association. All members of WLA are automatically members of the Foundation.
WLAF was established in 1983, but its current structure dates back to 1995 when WLA changed to a 501(c)(6) organization. WLAF is governed by a 10-member board comprised of 3 members elected by the membership, 3 members appointed by the WLA Board, the WLA Treasurer, and 2 community representatives appointed by the WLAF Board. The WLA/WLAF Executive Director is a non-voting member.
