How to Participate in the Campaign

By participating in the Campaign for Wisconsin Libraries at your library, you help spread the message about the value of Wisconsin libraries! Here are some ideas to get you started:

  1. Put the Campaign for Wisconsin Libraries decals at the Circulation Desk. Order your supply[pdf].

  2. Put the Campaign logo on your website, and link it to http://WisconsinLibraries.org, where library users can learn more about the value of libraries!

  3. Visit your local media and tell them about the Campaign. Show them WisconsinLibraires.org to share the Campaign resources with them. If there are other libraries in your community (school, special, public, academic) invite their directors to visit media contacts with you.

  4. Print and frame the print public service announcements and hang them in your library.

  5. Share information about the Campaign with your board of trustees, Friends group, and staff. Ask for their ideas about how you can incorporate Campaign resources and messages into programs and outreach you’re already doing.

  6. Ask your local Friends group to make a contribution to the Campaign.

  7. Add your library name to the print PSAs to promote the Campaign in partnership with your local newspaper.

  8. Use the facts provided on the Campaign website in your own literature for decision-makers in your organization or community.

  9. Provide every adult who gets a new library card with a decal.

  10. When you hold a program or library orientation session, offer decals to attendees.

  11. Consider hosting programs about the library’s role in supporting citizen participation in a democracy, the importance of access to information, or a similar topic.

  12. Distribute decals to individuals who are likely to display them. A goal of the campaign is to raise visibility for libraries. Trustees, library staff, Friends of the Library, and active library users are good candidates for decals.

  13. Involve your Friends of the Library organization in distributing bumper stickers. For instance, if you have a Friends store, give away a bumper sticker with each sale.

  14. Put the Campaign logo on your library letterhead. Include the Campaign URL: http://WisconsinLibraries.org.

  15. Let us know how the Campaign is working for you. Report coverage in your area, give us your new ideas or suggestions for improvements.

  16. Encourage your users to share their library stories on the Campaign web site.

  17. Keep us informed about interesting happenings at your library and suggest ideas for feature stories about libraries.

  18. Check WisconsinLibraries.org often for new information and resources you can use in your local promotional efforts.
