Manager, Library Access Services - Marquette University
Overview:
Working closely with the Associate Dean for Learning and Engagement, this position oversees the day-to-day operations of the Access Services Department, which includes a service desk, circulation, interlibrary loan, and stacks maintenance. Though primarily a daytime position, hours may vary occasionally based on library operating hours and business needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leadership Responsibilities
- Hires, supervises, and supports Access Services team members, and provides professional development, guidance, and coaching as needed. Cultivates a culture of strong customer service. Interprets library policies and uses their previous experience to analyze and resolve problems.
- Serves on the library’s Leadership Council.
- Uses evidence-based planning and decision-making for determining staffing models, services, and space planning.
- Works with department staff members to develop and maintain documentation for departmental policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with colleagues across departments to develop user-centered approaches to services and student employee management.
- Library Service Desk Responsibilities
- Perform basic reference interviews and answer basic reference questions via in person or phone.
- During assigned desk shifts, oversee student employees who are checking material in and out, answering questions both in person and virtually, helping Marquette Community members and visitors access the library.
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience providing library reference or a similar type of customer service.
- Supervisory experience required.
- Knowledge of current and emerging practices in library access, resource sharing, delivery services, and user services.
- Evidence of strong commitment to patron service and engagement.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
- Experience with integrated library systems and library discovery systems.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience with assessing services and using evidence to improve operations and services.
- Experience onboarding new employees and creating a culture of continual learning and improvement.
- Experience working in an academic library setting.
