America’s Little Switzerland seeks an innovative, enthusiastic and service-oriented Library Director who values community and staff engagement. Nestled in the hills of Green County, New Glarus is a Swiss roots community that is growing due to its small town charm, excellent schools, and close proximity to Madison, bike trails, and the New Glarus Woods State Park. With a building project on the horizon, this is a very exciting time for the Library and the community.
The New Glarus Public Library strives to serve the educational, cultural, and entertainment needs of the greater New Glarus community (service population of over 6,000). With a library budget of over $280,000, staff of FTE (4.3), strong community partners, and membership in the South Central Library System, the library provides exceptional services and quality resources that inspires learning, connects people, and celebrates community.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to: The library director oversees all aspects of library operations and services, supervising and mentoring staff, financial management, programming, collection development, oversight of the facility, community outreach, library advocacy, and fostering relationships with stakeholders and community partners. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and ability to obtain Grade 2 Wisconsin Library Certification is required (certification completion required within 2 years). A Library Science Master’s Degree is preferred. Successful candidates will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational and fiscal skills, and knowledge of current and emerging library technology. Experience as a Library Director or two years of professional/managerial experience preferred. Prior experience with a building expansion project is a plus.
Salary and benefits: The minimum hiring salary is $40,000 annually, depending upon qualifications and experience. This full-time position includes excellent health and dental insurance, paid leave, and retirement contribution.
