TECHNICAL SERVICES SECTION | TSS

 

PURPOSE

The Technical Service Section of the WLA contributes to the professional welfare of its membership and to librarianship generally as the Section of WLA responsible for activities related to the acquisition, identification, cataloging, classification, reproduction and preservation of library materials in all types of institutions, and to the development and coordination of Wisconsin's library resources. TSS is affiliated with the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services, a division of the American Library Association.

The Technical Services Section of WLA met on 2/17/2026. Below are meeting highlights. 

 

 

New TSS Leadership

 

* The 2026 leadership team (TSS chair, vice chair, and secretary) were introduced to the group.

 

 

Potential Training Sessions During Meetings

 

*TSS discussed having training workshops during their meetings on a range of subjects, such as RDA and local subject headings. Attendees volunteered to present on their expert topics.

 

 

Topic Discussion: LC's decision to omit the $v subfield in LCSH and expanded of LCGFT 

 

*Attendees discussed how this decision might make certain materials (examples-youth materials, specialized formats like diaries, etc.) in the catalog more challenging to find.

ALCTS is the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services, a division of the American Library Association. ALCTS is the national association for information providers who work in collections and technical services, such as acquisitions, cataloging, metadata, collection management, preservation, electronic and continuing resources.  In 2021, ALCTS became a part of CORE. Core: Leadership, Infrastructure, Futures is the national association that advances the profession of librarians and information providers in central roles of leadership and management, metadata and collections, and technology.  You can still access the historical ALCTS site using the linkage below.
