WAAL awards scholarships to three individuals to attend the annual WAAL conference. Individuals must fill out and submit the appropriate application form and a personal statement explaining their reasons for wanting to attend the conference and what interests them about this particular conference. Please refer to the conference website to review conference content.

  • Undergraduate students
    Undergraduate students who are interested in or who show potential for a library career are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Students should have an academic standing of sophomore or above.  
  • Graduate students
    Graduate students who are currently enrolled full or part-time in a Library/Information Science program, or those who are or will become WLA members prior to the WAAL conference, are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Supporting reference required. 

  • Paraprofessional staff
    Individuals who are currently employed by a library full or part-time in a paraprofessional staff position are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Supporting reference required. 

Graduate students and paraprofessional applicants require a professor, supervisor, or library director to submit a letter of recommendation in support of their application. The recommendation letter should address the following qualities: professional attitude, motivation, reliability and quality of work as applicable. Your reference should also address what anticipated benefit your supporters sees for you or your institution that your attendance at this conference may provide.



  1. Registration fee for the WAAL conference.
  2. Up to $250 in documented expenses which may include the following:
    1. Meal expenses. Scholarship recipients are required to attend the meal at which the scholarship awards will be acknowledged. Recipients are encouraged but not required to attend other conference-planned meals.
    2. Hotel room.
    3. Transportation expenses.

Receipts must be submitted for expenses.
