Murphy Library at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse is seeking a dynamic, student-centered librarian to engage UWL students in effective and innovative library programming and instruction activities. The Outreach Librarian coordinates with library units to publicize and market library services, programs, and resources, and also develops and participates in library event programming. This position serves as an instructional liaison to the College of Business Administration, teaches a substantial number of information literacy instruction sessions, and assists in reference services and collection development in assigned subjects. This is a 9-month, tenure track faculty position in an environment that supports and encourages librarianship, scholarship, and service.

Responsibilities Include:

- Coordinate with library units to publicize library services, programs, and resources.
- Develop and participate in library event programming.
- Deliver a substantial number of information literacy instruction sessions to UWL students in a variety of disciplines.
- Serve as an instructional liaison to the College of Business Administration.
- Manage visual and conceptual design elements to present the library identity -- including images, concepts, resources, and programs -- in a cohesive way throughout multiple platforms.
- Design and build paths to discovery by creating point-of-need resources, including library guides, social media, and the library’s blog, that facilitate access to and understanding of online and print library materials.
- Write articles for, provide leads to, and serve as library liaison to campus news media including the Campus Connection, the Racquet, and other similar publications.
- Craft and refine library messaging for campus or community distribution including coordinating the publication of the library newsletter.
- Manage the library’s presence at new student orientations and other first-year student events.
- Work with local and regional off-campus media to publicize programs that have impact beyond the UWL campus.
- Direct the creation of web graphics, signs, posters, and other materials for library event promotions.
- Maintain working knowledge of graphic design software, concepts, and trends.
- Participate in reference services and collection development areas of interest or expertise.
- Participate in collegial governance, and campus and professional activities.

Murphy Library is integral to student success at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Librarians have faculty status and are members of the library department, which is a peer-reviewed academic department. Murphy Library is administered by the library director who functions as an academic dean.

Required Qualifications:
- ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS or equivalent international degree in library or information science.
- Demonstrated teaching experience.
- Demonstrated experience developing and publicizing programs or events.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional experience working in an academic library environment.
- Experience working with an undergraduate population in a public services capacity.
- Working knowledge of business and marketing library resources.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively collaborate with faculty/staff, colleagues, and students.
- Demonstrated experience working with graphic design software.
- Experience working in a peer governed academic department.
- Evidence of professional growth potential through publication, professional activities, or other contributions to the field.

Degrees from international institutions will be accepted under the following conditions:
a. The degree has been recognized by the ALA as equivalent, or;
b. The degree has been evaluated at the candidate’s expense by a U.S. credentialing service recommended by the ALA and received by the Search & Screen chair by April 5, 2018.

Salary and Rank: Competitive salary for a full-time, 9-month tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Partial summer contracts may also be available.

Anticipated Starting Date: August 27, 2018.
