Governor Evers Issues National Library Week Proclamation

The Wisconsin Library Association thanks Governor Tony Evers for his proclamation in recognition of 2021 National Library Week. The Governor’s affirmation of the critical contributions public, school, academic and special libraries to residents of the Badger State by joining us in celebration is much appreciated.

The proclamation recognizes that “libraries of all types are at the heart of cities, towns, schools, campuses, and communities throughout Wisconsin. In times of crisis, libraries, librarians and library workers play an invaluable role in supporting communities across our state – both in-person and virtually – and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular, libraries have gone above and beyond to meet the evolving needs of their users.”

Governor Evers also highlights the importance of protecting and investing in our libraries “to promote the free exchange of information and ideas and, ultimately, to strengthen our democracy.” A copy of the proclamation is linked here

First introduced in 1958, National Library Week is an observance sponsored each April by the American Library Association and libraries across the country to publicize library use and support. The theme for April 4-10, 2021 National Library Week, “Welcome to Your Library,” promotes the idea that libraries extend far beyond the four walls of a building – and that everyone is welcome to use their services.

Wisconsin libraries offer opportunities for everyone to explore new worlds and become their best selves through access to technology, multimedia content, and educational programs. Take time to connect with the libraries in your community during National Library Week to see all they have to offer!
