Mission Statement: WLA engages, inspires and advocates for library workers and supporters to improve and promote library services for the people of Wisconsin.

Excused: Katharine Clark, Kristina Gomez, Kathy Michaelis.

Call to Order 

The meeting was called to order and a quorum was established at 10:06 a.m. by President Machones. 

Consent Agenda 

The consent agenda, which contained the minutes of the 11/16/2021 meetings and the current agenda, was accepted on a motion by Reed, seconded by Rae. Passed on a unanimous board vote. 

President’s Report – Sherry Machones 

  • WLA Annual Conference Update
    • Very positive comments, 459 registered attendees.
  • 2022 WLA Legislative Policy Statement
    • Peter Loeffel explained that one section had been removed and incorporated into another, and that four negative statements had been reworded to be affirmative. 
    • Vreeke moved, Doylen seconded, to approve the statement. Motion carried. 

Loeffel left the meeting at 10:13 a.m. 

Monthly Financial Report

WLA Policy Updates – Tracy Vreeke 

  • Doylen moved, Rae seconded, to approve the Confidentiality policy. Motion passed. 


Executive Director Report – Laura Sauser 

  • Report 
  • Vendor Memberships Proposal – tabled; question about voting rights 
  • Lifetime Membership Dues Update
    • 236 free lifetime members 
    • Vreeke volunteered to assist
  • Virtual conference
    • Possible topics include advocacy and censorship 
    • Summer timeframe 
    • Machones and Rae volunteered to assist
  • January 2022 Board Retreat – January 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
  • 2022 Board Meeting Dates – Doodle poll will be sent out
