November2024SueDaniels |
We are proud to highlight our members who commit their time and resources to helping Wisconsin libraries and librarians thrive through their work with the Wisconsin Library Association. Each month, we will be sharing their stories and hope you will be inspired to learn more about our programs or get involved! Fill out the Lead with WLA form and be connected with other change agents, leaders, and committees that can use what you have to offer. Sue Daniels | November 2024
For which library, institution, or organization are you currently employed? Elm Grove Public Library
How many year(s) have you been a member of Wisconsin Library Association? 17
What has been your favorite or most impactful function or event of WLA? My favorite thing lately has been the Performer Showcases the Youth Services Section has been providing. It's a great resource for finding program providers and stimulating ideas.
How has being a member of WLA impacted you or your career? I am much better informed about legislative issues that impact the library profession than I would be otherwise.
Do you have a library role model (in Wisconsin or elsewhere) that has provided you with inspiration or guidance? Please share a little bit about it. I can't say I have a single library role model, rather many people have shared wisdom with me when I needed it. Sometimes those interactions are in personal, one-on-one situations but more often they are in workshops or through articles provided by people I may never actually meet. When I had to plan my first summer library program, I heard a presentation from Marge Loch-Wouters (who I have never met) that helped me crystalize my plan.
Do you have any advice for new WLA members? Read the emails! If you have signed up for the appropriate sections within WLA, you will get useful information and learn about new opportunities.
